ACReSAL DAY AND COMMUNITY REVOLVING FUND DISBURSEMENT IN PLATEAU STATE

The Executive Governor of Plateau State, Barr Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang today presided over the Agro Climatic Resilience in Semi Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) Day, a significant event aimed at enhancing agricultural resilience in the state held at the Banquet Hall of the Government House in Little Rayfield, Jos, also marked the disbursement of funds from the Community Revolving Fund, designed to support local farmers and promote sustainable agricultural practices.

In his remarks, Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang emphasized the importance of the ACReSAL project in addressing the challenges posed by climate change and its impact on agriculture in semi-arid landscapes. He noted that the initiative is crucial for improving food security, increasing farmers’ incomes, and fostering sustainable land management practices.

“The ACReSAL project is not just about funding; it is about empowering our communities to adapt to climate change and to thrive despite the challenges we face,” Mutfwang stated. “Today, we are taking a significant step forward by disbursing funds that will enable our farmers to invest in better farming techniques, and adopt climate-smart practices.”

The Community Revolving Fund, which was established as part of the ACReSAL initiative, aims to provide financial support to local farmers and agricultural cooperatives. During the event, the Governor announced the disbursement of over 250 ,000 Dollars to various community groups across the state. This funding is expected to facilitate access to credit for farmers, enabling them to purchase necessary inputs and equipment.

Representatives from various farming communities expressed their gratitude for the support, highlighting the positive impact that the funds will have on their agricultural activities. “This funding will help us improve our yields and ensure that we can feed our families and communities,” said Mary Ndam, a local farmer and member of a cooperative.

Governor Mutfwang concluded the event by reiterating his administration’s commitment to supporting the agricultural sector and enhancing the livelihoods of farmers in Plateau State. He urged all stakeholders to work collaboratively to ensure the success of the ACReSAL project and to maximize the benefits of the Community Revolving Fund.

As the event wrapped up, the atmosphere was filled with optimism and determination among the attendees, who left with renewed hope for a more resilient agricultural future in Plateau State.

The Governor there after presented cheques to some communities. In attendance were the World Bank Country Director, Mr Ndiame Diop, The ACReSAL project Task Team Leader, Dr Joy Agene ,Commissioners of Environment, climate change and mineral development, Agriculture and rural development as well as that of Water resources and energy and other top government functionaries.

Highlight of the occasion was the commissioning of 20 tractors.
