ACReSAL PROJECT IN PLATEAU STATE EMPOWERS FARMERS

Plateau state ACReSAL project, in partnership with the Plateau State Government, has commissioned a significant initiative aimed at bolstering agricultural productivity and empowering local communities,
a generous provision of tractors and other implements has been made, ensuring smallholder farmers in Plateau State have access to modern machinery and tools to enhance their agricultural pursuits.

The commissioning ceremony, held at the premises of Plateau State Mineral Development company in Jos, was attended by some government officials including the Commissioner of Environment, Climate Change and Mineral Development, Mr Peter Kanang Gwom,and some community leaders.

The event marked a pivotal milestone towards transforming the state’s agricultural landscape ,supporting farmers, and fostering economic growth in rural areas.

Under this initiative, the aim is to boost agricultural efficiency, reduce labour burdens ,enhance crop yields, and ultimately improve the quality and livelihoods of farmers within the state.

Speaking during the ceremony, Mr Garba Gowon Gonkol,the Plateau State Project
Coordinator of the state, highlighted the Projects commitment to promoting sustainable agricultural practices and empowering local communities.

He further emphasised the importance of mechanisation in increasing productivity.

It would be recalled that ACReSAL Project has also established training programmes to educate farmers on best practices related to machinery operation ,maintenance, and sustainable farming techniques.

Local farmers who graced the occasion expressed their joy and gratitude, recognising the transformative potential of this initiative.

Mrs Saratu Adamu, a farmer told the ACReSAL Project media that she has been cultivating her land manually for years, saying “This ACReSAL has granted us access to modern machinery that will reduce our workload and enable us to cultivate larger areas. We are therefore very grateful for this opportunity to improve our livelihoods. “

Earlier, the Plateau State Government pledged its support for every donor agency including ACReSAL Project, acknowledging its potential to create employment opportunities for rural youth and promote economic growth.

With the commissioning of the tractors, the ACReSAL Project has added another chapter to its success story,affirming its mission to empower farmers, improve food security, and alleviate poverty in Plateau State and Nigeria at large .

Other implements presented to the Plateau Club Bingham University Teaching Hospital were 2 motor cycles ,50 dust bins to aid the community in waste management .
