VOM COMMUNITY RECEIVES GREEN HOUSE FROM PLATEAU STATE ACReSAL PROJECT

In a significant development for the Vom Community of Jos South LGA in Plateau state, the Agro Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) project has yesterday officially handed over state of the art green house to support local agricultural initiatives.

The handover ceremony which took place at the farm site brought together Community leaders, project stakeholders and government officials to mark the occasion.

It would be recalled that the green house was constructed as part of Plateau state ACReSAL project commitments to promoting sustainable agriculture and enhancing food security in the country, is equipped with modern technology and infrastructure to support the cultivation of a wide variety of crops.

The facility is expected to provide local farmers with tools and resources needed to improve their agricultural practices and increase their yields. Speaking at a brief ceremony, the Project coordinator of Plateau state ACReSAL project, Mr Garba Gowon Gonkol who was represented by the acting NRO and Environmental Safeguard Officer of the project, Mr Nanbal Hassan emphasized on the importance of empowering local communities through initiatives such as the green house Farming ” We are committed to supporting the Vom Community and other similar areas in Plateau state by providing them with the necessary resources to enhance their agricultural productivity and Resilience to climate change”,He stated. Many Community leaders who graced the occasion all expressed their gratitude for the support provided by the ACReSAL project, highlighting the potential impact of the greenhouse on the livelihoods of the local farmers.

The official handover of the green house represents a significant milestone in the ongoing efforts to promote sustainable agriculture and Resilience to climate change in not only Plateau state but Nigeria .

As the Vom Community takes ownership of the green house, there is optimism about the positive impact it will have on local agriculture and the livelihoods of farmers.

It also marks a step forward in the journey towards a more resilient and sustainable agricultural sector in Plateau state ,with the ACReSAL project playing a pivotal role in driving positive change in the state. In another development, the Plateau state ACReSAL project in a bid to boost the agricultural sector and further support local farmers has presented Crates to strawberry farmers and other farmers in Vom to improve packaging and transportation and ultimately enhancing the marketability of the produce.
