In a bid to strengthen security and protect valuable infrastructure, officials of the Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) project on Tuesday visited the Jos Wildlife Park to inspect the installation of closed-circuit television (CCTV) facilities at the park.

The visit, which drew attention from park management, security personnel and project stakeholders, was aimed at ensuring that the surveillance system is properly installed and functional enough to safeguard the project’s intervention from vandalism, theft and other security threats.

Speaking during the inspection, ACReSAL project Coordinator ,Garba Gowon Gonkol said the CCTV installation forms part of broader efforts to secure project assets and guarantee the sustainability of the intervention. He noted that the park, being one of the beneficiaries of the project, must be adequately monitored to prevent misuse or damage to facilities put in place to support environmental restoration and resilience.

The team moved around key points within the park to assess the coverage of the cameras, the positioning of the equipment and the level of readiness of the security network. According to PC, the installation is a vital step in ensuring accountability and long-term protection of public investment.

The General Manager of plateau state tourism corporation, Mr. Chuwang Pwajok who joined the inspection commended the initiative, describing the CCTV system as timely and necessary given the need to protect critical installations. The G M said the technology would help improve surveillance, deter intruders and provide a stronger layer of security for both staff and visitors.

The park manager Sunday Bulus also expressed optimism that the move would help preserve the intervention and enhance the park’s overall safety. Other officers said the installation of CCTV reflects a growing recognition that environmental projects require not only physical implementation but also proper monitoring and protection.

The Jos Wildlife Park intervention is seen as part of efforts to promote environmental sustainability while protecting biodiversity and public assets.

The inspection ended with assurances that the project team would follow through on quality checks and necessary adjustments to ensure the CCTV facilities serve their intended purpose effectively.

With the installation in place, stakeholders say the focus now is on maintaining the system and ensuring that the intervention at the wildlife park is shielded from threats that could undermine its impact.
