The Plateau State House of Assembly Committee on Environment has embarked on an oversight visit to several ACReSAL project sites across the state, as part of its constitutional duty to monitor the implementation of government-funded environmental and climate resilience initiatives.

The committee, during the visit, inspected ongoing project sites under the Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) programme, with a focus on assessing the level of compliance, quality of work, and overall progress of execution. The lawmakers said the visit was aimed at ensuring transparency, accountability, and value for public funds.

Speaking during the visit, the committee chairman , Honourable Sunday Mark said the Assembly was committed to supporting projects that directly improve the environment, enhance livelihoods, and protect communities from the effects of climate change. He noted that the ACReSAL intervention had the potential to address critical environmental challenges facing the state if properly executed.

According to him, the oversight visit was necessary to ascertain whether contractors and implementing agencies were meeting project specifications and delivering within approved timelines. He added that the Assembly would not hesitate to call for corrective measures where gaps were identified.

Engr Steve Machack Ezekiel briefed the lawmakers on the scope of work at the various locations, including land restoration, erosion control at the Plateau club Bingham university site and other climate-smart interventions at the Jos wildlife park.

The committee expressed satisfaction with the progress recorded at some of the sites, while also urging the relevant authorities to intensify supervision to ensure timely completion. The lawmakers stressed that such projects must be completed to standard for the benefit of residents, particularly those in communities most affected by environmental degradation.

The oversight visit formed part of the Assembly’s broader effort to strengthen legislative monitoring of development projects and ensure that government interventions achieve their intended impact across Plateau State.
